If your quality of life is affected by cataracts or presbyopia, it is time to talk about treatment options tailored to your lifestyle. Most people over the age of 60 experience some level of blurry vision due to cataracts. Many people over the age of 50 are uncomfortable driving or unable to easily read at close distances without glasses caused by presbyopia.

    Signs of Cataracts:
    Difficulty driving
    Difficulty seeing at night
Difficulty viewing a computer screen, a phone or a tablet
    Colors appear dim and faded
    Frequent change in prescription glasses

    Signs of Presbyopia:
Loss of ability to read up close
Difficulty viewing a computer screen, a phone or a tablet
    Need reading glasses or bifocals
Holding objects further away to read

Huge advances have been made in intraocular lenses or IOLs implanted inside your eye to replace your eye’s natural lens. TECNIS Multifocal Lenses offer three options that provide outstanding vision at all distances and in any lighting condition. Now you can look forward to seeing objects up close, far into the distance and in-between!

Isn’t it time you gained independence from glasses? Just ask the professionals at SNEAD EYE GROUP to consult with you to determine the best lens choice for your lifestyle.

Alternative glaucoma treatments can reduce or eliminate the need for eye drops, helping reduce the possibility of infection!

    October is Infection Prevention Month.

Traditional prescription eye drops are not for everyone. Besides the need to use them daily for glaucoma treatment, eye drops carry a risk of infection. The professionals at SNEAD EYE GROUP can treat glaucoma with two innovative, alternative methods, both conveniently preformed at our Fort Myers and Naples surgery centers.

Dr. John Snead and Dr. Brad Snead are certified to perform iStent Trabecular Micro-Bypass. Approved by the FDA, the iStent is the world’s smallest medical device, providing long-term, non-medicinal treatment for patients suffering from Open-Angle Glaucoma. This tiny titanium stent is inserted into the eye to help aide in the natural draining of intraocular fluid into the blood stream, reducing pressure build up within the eye. A large percentage of patients who receive the iStent report a reduction in the number of medications needed.

Another option is Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty, also referred to as SLT, whereby laser energy is applied to the drainage tissue in the eye. This starts a chemical and biological change in the tissue that results in better drainage of fluid through the drain and out of the eye. Some people may no longer need drops – others may have to use one less drop.

Since both procedures are accepted glaucoma treatments, and FDA approved, they are covered by Medicare and most medical insurances. Consult with a SNEAD EYE GROUP professional today to learn if you’re a candidate for either of these innovative treatment options!

Did you know that good health and nutrition play critical roles for maintaining a set of healthy eyes? Studies show that protecting your eyes starts with the food on your plate. Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, and vitamins C and E can help ward off age-related vision problems such as macular degeneration and cataracts, In fact, a study published in the Archives of Ophthalmology found a high intake of foods such as spinach, kale, turnip greens, collards, broccoli, pumpkin, and corn can reduce the risk of cataracts by 18%!  “Eating leafy green vegetables is not only good for your health, it’s good for your vision. The old saying an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, is very true when it comes to healthy eyes,” says Dr. Brad Snead with SNEAD EYE GROUP.

Green leafy vegetables not your thing? Have you tried kale chips?! They are super tasty, easy to make and will treat your eyes to loads of good nutrients! Here’s a link to a recipe so you can try them at home – Click here
Regularly eating these foods below can help lead to good eye health:

    * Green, leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale,
    and collards
    * Salmon, tuna, and other oily fish
    * Eggs, nuts, beans, and other non-meat protein sources * Oranges and other citrus fruits or juices
