FORT MYERS, Fla. (Aug. 23, 2013) – Dr. John W. Snead, M.D., F.A.C.S., founder and medical director of Snead Eye Group, was pleased to partner with the HR department of Scott Fischer Enterprises to offer complimentary vision screenings for its Harley-Davidson employees, both in Fort Myers and Naples.

These events took place on July 12 at the Fort Myers dealership location and Aug. 8 at the Naples location.

A complimentary vision screening should be the first step taken by a company in promoting healthy vision among its employees. A company’s success isn’t just in the hands of their employees but in the eyes of them as well.”

Snead Eye Group to provide safety education

FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 14, 2013) – Just in time for Fourth of July celebrations, Dr. Jay Rosen, board certified optometric physician of Snead Eye Group, will hold a lecture on fireworks hazards and dealing with traumatic injuries, stressing the importance of annual eye exams to protect one’s vision, at the Cape Coral Fire Department, Station 8 on Friday, June 21 at 9 a.m.

According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, an estimated 17 percent of fireworks-related injuries affect the eyes, leading to visual loss or blindness. Each year, 400 Americans lose vision in one or both eyes during Fourth of July celebrations due to eye injuries. The majority of eye injuries occur in children younger than 16, who are not aware of the potential danger in handling any type of firework.

As part of the Lee County Injury Prevention Coalition membership, Battalion Chief of EMS Ryan Lamb recognized a need to further prepare his firefighters and EMS personnel in the event of an eye injury.

“Because we depend heavily on our emergency responders, it’s important to work hand in hand with them to ensure the health and safety of our community,” said Dr. Rosen.

Founded by Dr. Snead in 1985, Snead Eye Group provides comprehensive eye care, including eye surgery to patients in Lee, Collier and surrounding counties.

Snead Eye Group announces technician-training graduates

Program trains individuals for careers in the ophthalmology field

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 18, 2013) – Snead Eye Group announces it has graduated four individuals from its technician-training program.

Last June, Snead Eye Group partnered with Southwest Florida Works, a local organization dedicated to improving the economy by helping people find jobs. A formal internship program was launched including on-the-job training to help get people back to work. Each intern student was provided study materials, a technician trainer with more than 20 years experience in the ophthalmology field and weekly lectures given by physicians to ensure his or her success.

In the past year under instructor Michael Fleishman, graduates of the program include Michael Adams, Nora Guerrero, Andrea Piscitelli and Farina Silverio.

“With the addition of electronic medical records and changes in the marketplace, Snead Eye Group became challenged with finding trained qualified ophthalmic technicians,” said Dr. John W. Snead, M.D., F.A.C.S., founder and medical director of Snead Eye Group. “Similar to the nursing shortage, eye care is feeling the pressure of having a readily available pool of people to recruit from.”

According to Dr. Snead, this training program will be ongoing in a continuing effort to boost our local economy and provide excellent eye care services to Snead Eye Group’s patients.

Founded by Dr. Snead in 1985, Snead Eye Group provides comprehensive eye care, including eye surgery to patients in Lee, Collier and surrounding counties.
