  • The Best Eye Care Practice: Act Now vs. Later

The Best Eye Care Practice: Act Now vs. Later

    Problem:

Meet Jessica, she is a forty-five-year-old single parent who works two full-time jobs. When she isn’t working, she’s watching her athletically gifted daughter, Emily, play softball. As you can imagine, Jessica doesn’t have much free time between juggling her jobs and helping her eighteen-year-old daughter fill out college applications.

Lately, after work, Jessica finds herself proofreading Emily’s college application letters. She’s recently noticed that reading has become a difficult task. Her vision tends to blur anytime she has to focus on something up close. Jessica knew that she’s been postponing her eye visits for far too long but continued to delay the inevitable eye exam.

A few months later, Emily graduated from high school with a full-ride scholarship to play softball at a university. Jessica was extremely proud and excited for her daughter to start this next stage in life, and soon Emily moved out and began her schooling. Jessica had a lot more free time on her hands and was finally able to schedule that eye appointment. Only now, her vision seemed to have worsened. Every time she needed to do a task close up her vision blurred, and left her with a headache and feeling tired.

When she arrived at Snead Eye Group, she was brought into the eye examination room. Following her exam Jessica was informed, the reason she had difficulty seeing was because of presbyopia. Presbyopia tends to form during your forties and it stems from a gradual loss of flexibility in the natural lens of the eye. As we age, the eye loses elasticity and has a harder time focusing up close.

    Solution:

After receiving this news, Jessica was worried and rightfully so, but we reassured her that presbyopia is not unusual. In fact, her vision could still be completely restored by simply wearing glasses or contacts!

Jessica was relieved, after speaking with the doctor she decided on monovision contact lenses. This is perfect for the patient who wants the least amount of dependency on glasses and the very best vision possible. These contact lenses will be used for correction by wearing one contact for distance and one for close up. These lenses are perfect for busy people on the go!

Later, Jessica arrived to pick up her prescription contacts and was in awe by how quick and easy the whole process was.

    Result:

We called to check in on Jessica regarding her new prescription lenses. She stated that she experienced no discomfort, and she could see better than ever before. She was amazed at how this simple visit made her quality of life better. Only you can decide when it is time to open your eyes to a bright clear world. Trust us, you won’t regret it.

The “Continuum of Care” program consists of scheduling an initial visit which will allow the doctors to find the baseline for your eye health. From there, you can partake in an iWellness screening, which will help detect chronic eye disease early. This allows the doctors to create a custom treatment plan for you. From those goals, the wonderful doctors at Snead Eye Group will create a structured plan in accordance with your eye visits, eye care products, and/or surgeries.

  • How Do you Care for your Aging Parents?

How Do you Care for your Aging Parents?

If you’re helping to take care of your parents, but you’re having trouble staying on top of it. Plus, you’re not sure about how to keep their eye health in check…

Then hopefully reading this case study will help you.

    The Problem:

This is a case study about Linda. She’s like many of our other patients. Linda is a mom in her 40’s with WAY too much to do.

One of her duties is taking care of her parents. Of course, she’s happy to help them out- but sometimes everything just piles up doesn’t it?

Linda knew her parents had vision problems. It was getting harder for them to see. They complained about having trouble reading in bed at night.

She also knew that her parents hadn’t been to an eye doctor in 2-3 years. They recently moved down to Florida, and they needed to find a new eye doctor.

That’s how Linda found herself down here at Snead Eye Group.

    The Solution:

Linda wanted us to put her parents on an eye health plan. So that she wouldn’t have to worry about their vision problems.

That’s exactly what we did. Their first visit started with iWellness screenings, new glasses, and a new plan. This new plan involved yearly eye exams, goals, and eye screenings.

    The Result:

Over the past 2 years, Linda and her family have stuck with the plan we created. She told us that she feels much better about her parent’s health. Linda doesn’t have to worry about her parent’s vision anymore… and she feels safe and secure knowing they’ve been taken care of.

    As for her parents…

After their regular eye exams, and by following their eye doctor’s instructions- they’re feeling better than ever. They’re still coming to visit us here at Snead Eye Group multiple times per year. We’re keeping a close eye on their vision, looking for problems like cataracts, glaucoma, and eye disease.

Knowing you have someone looking over your parents gives you a great feeling of peace and security.

If you want us to look over your parents (or your family)… then we can help. Simply call the number to set up your appointment. (239) 936-8686

  • A Case Study of Two Grandparents

A Case Study of Two Grandparents

    The Problem:

Two years ago, a couple named Joe and Sarah came to see us at Snead Eye Group. They were in their early sixties, and they had recently moved to Fort Myers for their retirement. Joe and Sarah were excited to live close to their children and enjoy the warm Florida sun.

However, before they could enjoy their stay, they had to find an eye care provider to take care of them.

That’s when they started researching online for different doctors, and it wasn’t long before they found themselves at one of the Snead Eye Group offices.  Then that’s where Joe, Sarah, and our doctors set up a goal to preserve their vision throughout retirement. They wanted to be able to stay active for many more decades … and enjoy their golden years.

    The Solution:

Finding a solution to preserve your eyesight for many years is unique when you live in Florida.

First, you need a plan to follow to keep your eyes healthy. So, we set up regular eye exams and screenings for Joe and Sarah. This step also involved setting up a goal for how they wanted to live for the next five years.

Next, you need a special plan for when you live in Florida. Why? Because of the sun. Down in Florida, we get more direct sunlight than almost anywhere else in the USA. So protecting your eyes against the sun is important. That’s why we fit both of them with special pairs of protective sunglasses and gave them an eye care regimen to take care of their eyes after being outside.

    The Result:

Two years later, Joe and Sarah are more active than ever. They’re now part of the family here at Snead Eye Group… and we’re happy to say that they love spending time with their grandchildren, going on adventures, and enjoying their retirement. Plus, the best part is- they don’t have to worry about their vision anymore. Why? Because, they’ve got a top team of the best eye doctors, surgeons, and staff taking care of them. That’s an amazing feeling.

So, if you want that same feeling for yourself- then please call the number below to schedule your appointment today: (239) 936-8686

What do your eyes say about you?

Your eyes are amazing. They’re protected by your eyelids, which function by muscles, like the Muller muscle or the Levator muscle.

However, saggy eyelids can be caused by trauma, or the aging process weakening these muscles even as early as women enter their 40s. These droopy eyelids can make it hard to see, and they also make you look many years older than your actual age.

Well, today I want to describe one of the best ways to fix droopy eyelids:

    Eyelid Surgery

Going a little deeper, droopy eyelids are caused by the stretching of the muscles that hold your eyelid up. Take a look at the diagram below to see where these muscles are on your face:

    Eyelid Anatomy: Source: emedicine.medscape.com

Fasanella is an example of one special form of eyelid surgery. During the surgery, your surgeon tightens the Muller’s Muscle (as seen on the diagram above) instead of the Levator muscle.

This is a quick and easy procedure that gives reliable results and often times is covered by your insurance.

    What happens after the surgery?

Recovery from eyelid surgery isn’t so bad. During your recovery, you want to make sure you’re keeping your head at an elevated position. You also want to use ice packs to reduce swelling during your recovery.

  • How Soon Should You See An Eye Doctor?

How Soon Should You See An Eye Doctor?

You’re a busy mom! We totally get it. You’re spending most of your time taking care of the kids, your parents, and the house, the last thing you think about are your eyes.

Your eyes are crucial; when your vision goes bad … that’s something that you can’t replace. So, you really have to take care of your eyes. The earlier you get started the better.

Take this case study about Mandy for example:

    Problem:

Mandy’s your classic busy mom. She’s busy from dusk to dawn, and rarely has time to even breathe.

Luckily, she didn’t wear glasses for most of her life. Until, one day in her early forties, she noticed she was having trouble seeing. Words looked fuzzy to her on paper, and she was worried that it would get worse.

Mandy started looking for an eye doctor. Soon after, she made her first visit to Snead Eye Group.

During that visit, we found that Mandy had a common problem that occurs when a person ages. As time goes on it would become harder and harder for Mandy to see.

    Solution:

Since Mandy came into our office early, we knew a good maintenance plan for her eyes would be perfect. It would save her from potential early vision loss, and all it would take is one simple plan.

We created a healthy eye plan for Mandy, including our iWellness screenings, to keep her eyes in the best shape possible for years to come.

    Result:

Over the last ten years, Mandy had fantastic results. She looks and feels better than ever. We have slowed her vision loss, and she told us that she feels great about the future.

Now, she doesn’t have to worry about missing a moment of her life. She can enjoy great vision for many more years so she can live her life the way she wants to.  The future looks bright (and clear) for Mandy.

Here’s the best part. Mandy is just one of our many happy customers here at Snead Eye Group. We would love for you to be our next success story!

  • Looking Younger For Men: Surgical vs. Non-Surgical Option

Looking Younger For Men: Surgical vs. Non-Surgical Option

One of the most important parts of your appearance is your eyes. Why? Because, your eyes are the first thing most people notice. Which means if you have younger looking eyes, people almost instantly assume that you’re years younger than your actual age.

That’s a problem for many guys. Working all the time, spending tons of time outside in the sun, or being in front of a computer screen damages your eyes. That’s why finding ways to wipe away the aging process is so important. However, many men believe that it takes expensive surgery to do this.

There are some great surgeries to achieve younger looking eyes. However, there are also many non-surgical options you can use if you want to make your eyes look younger without surgery. So today, you’ll get the chance to look at a few of these alternatives:

    Surgical Options:

    Eyelid surgery:

The muscles around your eyes can loosen over the years and excess skin can droop. This causes “droopy eyelids” which make it harder to see. These droopy eyelids also make you look years older than your actual age. However, a simple surgery can fix this problem for good.

The best part about this eyelid surgery is after you’re done, it looks completely natural. The recovery period is very short so you can get back to work quickly. Plus, the effects of this surgery last for a very long time.

    Cosmetic surgery:

Additionally, if you want to look younger you do have cosmetic options. You could take advantage of options such as Botox, Juvederm, or a laser procedure.

    Non-Surgical Options

    Premium eyeglasses and lenses:

The right pair of glasses not only keeps your vision sharp, but they can help you look years younger with the right style. Thankfully, we have a full service optical department here at Snead Eye Group. An optician can help you find the perfect frames to fit your personality and your eyes.

    Contact lenses:

If you don’t want to wear glasses, then contact lenses might be the perfect option for you. They help you see better without having to wear glasses. Plus, we always have the latest (and most comfortable) contact lens technology available to you, no matter your age.

    Premium sunglasses:

Protecting your eyes from the sun is very important. That’s why we recommend you find a pair of quality sunglasses which block 99-100% of UVA and UVB light from the sun. Wearing these glasses helps to protect your good vision, and they also help reduce wrinkle formation around your eyes.

Alright, there we go. Those are some of the best options you have available for looking younger. If you have any questions, or you’d like to speak to one of our doctors. Then please check out our website and book your next appointment today.

  • How You Can Live an Active Lifestyle Even After Corrective Surgery or Other Corrections

How You Can Live an Active Lifestyle Even After Corrective Surgery or Other Corrections

    The Problem:

Meet John and Mandy. Not too long ago, they both retired after very long careers. Both loved to travel together, spend time outside, and go hiking. They imagine their golden years being full of this freedom, exotic trips to Europe, and adventure.

However, it wouldn’t be that easy, soon after retiring, they both found it getting harder to see and realized it was getting dangerous for them to travel alone. They were worried their loss of vision would dampen their retirement dreams.  So, John and Mandy came to see us at Snead Eye Group.

After their eye examinations, John and Mandy learned cataracts had developed in their eyes.  Their frequent exposure to the sun could even have contributed to the cataracts!

    The Solution:

Of course, they were worried. We reassured them that treating cataracts such as theirs could easily be addressed and that their vision could be restored. In fact by the age of 65, cataracts affect over half of Americans. So, cataracts are not unusual, and they are curable.

Both John and Mandy agreed to have cataract removal surgery here at Snead Eye Group. It’s a quick, painless procedure. We start by removing the cataracts, then we replace the damaged natural lens with a new lens.  If you are a candidate, you can even have the latest trifocal lens implant.

What’s a trifocal lens you ask? Good question. It’s a special type of lens that goes into your eye. It’s the latest lens technology, and it allows your eye to focus on objects at near, intermediate, and far distances.

As opposed to standard monofocal or bifocal lenses which only let you focus on objects at one or two distances. These trifocal lenses are superior in every way, and here’s how replacing John and Mandy’s cataracts turned out.

    The Result:

After a quick recovery (of only 3 days), John and Mandy were back to their normal life. They could see better than ever! During our checkup, they told us that they were even already traveling again.

    Isn’t that fantastic?

Now that they can see better than they have in decades, they’re excited to travel all over the world together, spend time outdoors, and enjoy their golden years for many more decades to come.

We love hearing stories like theirs; it’s why we’ve stayed in business for over 35 years!
